TO CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL

BY

Laura Lee Christian

Oh bright light
illuminating the
fallen snow,
having cast their beauties
on the waiting boughs of trees.
Brilliant shining diamond
in a sapphire sky.
Crispy coated, cold and deep,
maintaining your substance
in the rays of the sun,
trees decked with snow
like a ten scoop ice cream cone,
made from pure water,
crystalized in the skys.
And your still shadows
trail behind you as you
face the warm light.
Mountain top in the distance
peaks over your rounded
snow-covered hill.
You look like a skier's delight
with your trees a perfect slalom course.
Or are you trees frozen statues
in a wonderland?
When your life-giving water melts
it will be taken by laughing streams
down to the valleys below,
giving the light of life
to creatures great and small.
